How to play GridRivl
Everything you need to know — battle, earn coins, open crates, and build a garage of collectible cars.
Battles
- Pick a series — NASCAR, Formula 1, IndyCar, or Mixed — and either take a Quick Match against a waiting opponent or Challenge someone by username.
- Asynchronous: you answer your 15 questions now; your opponent answers the same set whenever they're ready. The match resolves once you've both finished.
- Questions run easy → medium → hard. Answer fast — the quicker you lock in a correct answer, the more points it's worth.
- Win and you earn coins — your first few wins each day pay the most (a big bonus that tapers off), so a daily session is well rewarded. Wins also climb your ELO rating (which sets your driver rank) and move you up the leaderboards.
- Win streaks pay escalating bonus coins — keep winning to grow the bonus.
Power-ups
Buy these in the Shop and spend them mid-battle:
- Question Pass — Skip a question with an automatic correct answer.
- 50 / 50 — Removes two of the wrong answers.
- Extra Time — Adds 3 seconds to the clock on one question.
- Double Points — Doubles the points you earn on one question.
- Freeze Opponent — Freezes your opponent for one round in a battle.
Daily challenge & streaks
- Play the Daily Challenge once a day for coins and battle-pass XP.
- Logging in on consecutive days builds a login streak for bonus rewards. Miss a day and it resets…
- …unless you own a Streak Freeze (from the Shop or a crate), which automatically saves your streak for one missed day.
Coins & the Shop
- Earn coins by winning battles, completing the daily challenge, and hitting streaks. You can also buy coin packs in the app.
- Write a question — submit a trivia question and earn 250 coins for every one our admins approve.
- Power-ups — stock up for tougher battles.
- Upgrades — a 2× Points Boost (24h), a username change, and Streak Freezes.
- Cosmetics — name colours, avatar frames, profile banners, and titles to show off. Equip them from the Shop.
- Items you win from crates show up under "Your Crate Items" in the Shop, ready to equip.
Loot crates
Open a crate for 1000 coins and spin for a random reward — cosmetics, bonus XP, power-ups, coins, even collectible cars. Drop odds:
- Common — 50% chance
- Rare — 30% chance
- Epic — 15% chance
- Legendary — 5% chance
- Pity timer: if you go 20 opens without a Legendary, your next crate is guaranteed Legendary.
- Duplicates are automatically refunded as coins (more coins back for rarer items), so an open is never wasted.
Your car
- Every driver starts with a car — view and manage it in the Garage tab on your profile.
- Buy endless upgrades with coins — Engine, Tires, Turbo and Fuel Tank. There's no level cap, so there's always more to chase. Engine/Tires/Turbo boost the coins & XP you earn from every battle.
- Your car evolves as you upgrade — earn alloy wheels (Tires), a rear wing (Turbo) and a hood scoop + exhaust (Engine), and climb the tiers: Stock → Tuned → Pro → Elite → Legendary. Each new tier pays a one-time coin bonus.
- Win to refresh, lose to wear. Winning a battle tops your car's fuel & condition back to 100%; losing wears its condition down. Keep winning and your car stays in peak shape.
- Don't run it into the ground. If a car hits 0% condition or racks up 10 losses, it gets totaled — hauled off and replaced with a fresh stock car, with its upgrades, logbook and name all gone. Tune up and win to keep it alive.
- Keep it fuelled. Your tank also drains over time — run dry and your car gives no battle boost until you refuel (a bigger Fuel Tank lasts longer). Visit your Garage daily for a free check-in top-up.
- Make it yours. In the Paint shop pick a livery, three colours, rim finish, a number plate and your car number — then climb the Top Cars leaderboard by Car Rating.
- Pink Slip battles ⚠️ — challenge another driver and wager your car. The winner keeps their car; the loser's car is stripped back to 0 stats (all upgrades gone). High risk, high reward.
Leaderboards & ranks
- Leaderboards are split by series and by this season vs all-time. Seasons reset periodically so there's always a fresh race.
- The Top Cars board ranks players by Car Rating (total upgrades).
- Your points lift your driver rank — the badge shown by your name.
Verification
The blue check is reserved for real motorsport professionals — active NASCAR, F1, and IndyCar Drivers, Crew Members, and Officials. Request it from the Get verified link in the footer.
